Board of Trustees
Steps Nursery is a registered charity and managed day-to-day by our Nursery Manager, whilst overall responsibility is down to our voluntary management Board of Trustees, with several parent trustees / directors.

Meet the Board of Trustee
Sarah Tyler, Chair & Safeguarding Trustee
Hello, my name is Sarah, I have been part of the Trustee Board since 2016 as secretary, vice chair and now the chair.
About me
Both my children attended Steps from being babies until it was time for school. I still remember my own time at Nursery and what an experience it was, so I feel passionate about giving children the best starting in life. I am proud to be part of Steps and supporting quality of education for all our children.
Over the last 23 years, I’ve been part of over a dozen boards and four rooms, including chair of regional Olympic Legacy group, chair of research forum, vice chair of an NHS committee and governor of a couple of local colleges. I have also had a number of jobs working with local and central government governments around the UK and overseas supporting policies and programme development.
Jane Simpson, HR & Health and Safety Trustee
My name is Jane and I joined the Trustee Board in July 2023.
About me
I am married with one daughter. My daughter attended a nursery full-time from being six months old to start in school, so I fully appreciate the valuable role that Nursery staff have on young children to give them the best start in their education and to help them develop their social skills.
I have recently left full-time employment, having had a career in human resources which has spanned over 35 years. I am now a self-employed HR consultant and provide HR services to schools, colleges, multi academy trust and charities. I wanted to join the board of trustees as I felt passionate about giving some of my time back to the community, and using my skills to enhance the current skills set on the board.
In my spare time, enjoy travelling and keeping fit.
Lauren Sanderson, Secretary & Fundraising Trustee
Hi, I’m Lauren and I have worked and volunteered in the charities sector for more than a decade.
About me
I began working at High Green Development Trust in September 2021, that’s how I discovered Steps Nursery. I joined the Trustee Board as a parent volunteer a few months later, hoping to be able to support the charity with my knowledge of fundraising and small charity operations.
I’m a strong believer in the importance of healthier early years development and education and I am very proud to be involved in Steps’ work to support families and children in that. I have fond memories of attending nursery myself and it’s where I met the person who, still to this day, I call my best friend.
