Meet the Board of Trustee

Sarah Tyler, Chair & Safeguarding Trustee
Hello, my name is Sarah, I have been part of the Trustee Board since 2016 as secretary, vice chair and now the chair.
About me
Both my children attended Steps from being babies until it was time for school. I still remember my own time at Nursery and what an experience it was, so I feel passionate about giving children the best starting in life. I am proud to be part of Steps and supporting quality of education for all our children.
Over the last 25 years, I’ve been part of over a dozen boards and four rooms, including chair of regional Olympic Legacy group, chair of research forums, vice chair of an NHS committee and governor of a couple of local colleges. I have also had a number of jobs working with local and central government around the UK and overseas supporting policies and programme development.

Jane Simpson, HR & Health and Safety Trustee
My name is Jane and I joined the Trustee Board in July 2023.
About me
I am married with one daughter. My daughter attended a nursery full-time from being six months old to starting in school, so I fully appreciate the valuable role that Nursery staff have on young children to give them the best start in their education and to help them develop their social skills.
I have recently left full-time employment, having had a career in human resources which has spanned over 35 years. I am now a self-employed HR consultant and provide HR services to schools, colleges, multi academy trust and charities. I wanted to join the board of trustees as I felt passionate about giving some of my time back to the community, and using my skills to enhance the current skills set on the board.
In my spare time, enjoy travelling and keeping fit.

Charlotte Garrett, Fundraising Trustee
Hi, I’m Charlotte.
About me

Christy Bond, Interim Treasurer & Outdoors Trustee
Hi, my name is Christy, I’m a parent trustee and my daughter currently attends Steps, I’m interim finance trustee and outdoor trustee.
About me
I’m a plant nursery manager in Sheffield and have been passionate about the outdoors since a very young age. I’ve studied and worked in the horticulture industry for over 15 years whilst also home growing vegetables and fruit. I think it is important for children to have the opportunity to explore an active interest in the outdoors, aiding them to stay fit, healthy and learn about the world around us.
I’m also an active member of British Powerlifting, since 2023 regularly competing in competitions up and down the UK and training 4 times a week. My highest achievement to date was being selected as a reserve to represent team England at the 2024 powerlifting commonwealths’ competition at Sun City, South Africa.
I chose to become a trustee to share my knowledge with the children and staff to create an enriching outdoor environment for years to come that both is educational and fun.
